Zoran Grinberg, born in 1968, spent his childhood between Paris and Belgrade. He currently lives and works in Carrara.
-My work process is slow and meticulous. Often, there is an ornamental dimension to my works, the intent to please the eye and to enhance the natural beauty of materials and shapes even in the most “dramatic” works. The medieval word “image carver” (image sculptor”) suits me.
Furthermore, I love and try to apply the formal freedom that belongs to medieval sculptors, where the representation of space and subjects did not obey the rules of geometric perspective or anatomy, but invented their own codes and adapted them to the narrative and the situation . Similarly, with the exception of a few works I have done for public spaces, I am not looking for a monumental aspect or a dialogue with the surrounding environment. Instead, I create small profane scenes where one can find some visions of our states of mind enclosed in the object of the sculpture itself through sarcasm, tenderness, mystery or concern.-
